From a late magazine.
ON THE DEATH OF A BELOVED WIFE WRITTEN BY HER HUSBAND.
While pining anguish, wild despair,
Increase my pangs, prolong my care;
Depriv'd of all my soul held dear,
Enchanting joy, and love sincere.
. . . [16 lines]
Once soft perswasion tun'd her tongue,
As truth sincere, and sweet as song:
. . . [19 lines]
But hark! the sadly solemn bell,
Sullenly sounds my last farewell.
. . . [24 more lines]
